STRATEGY

We focus on deep tech in real assets and infrastructure.

Our strategy is Deep Tech: Labs to Launch — sourcing from the nation's top labs, de-risking by leading early-stage rounds and focusing on recruiting, team development, funding and go-to-market strategy.

OPPORTUNITY

The Clean Machine Revolution is here.

We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to build better solutions across labor, supply chain, sustainability and connectivity. We need automation in place of unavailable labor, domestic manufacturing, and modern infrastructure. We are investing in a better future.

Labor

The United States is in the midst of a massive labor shortage, driving up wages and inflation. The problem is permanent, with a quarter of the labor force over 55 years old and increasingly educated younger generations rejecting manual labor. We require widespread automation, across industrial and service sectors, where market needs represent discrete and quantifiable economic opportunity.

Logistics

We are experiencing a perfect storm in logistics, causing delays, cost increases and broad disfunction. Increased e-commerce demand, outsourced manufacturing, dilapidated domestic infrastructure, and labor shortages drive a painful need for infrastructure modernization. We require substantial investment across new solutions that are both efficient and sustainable.

Sustainability

Climate change is the challenge of our lifetime. A new awareness of the societal threat and economic impact has driven institutional capital and growing purchasing power to transition toward sustainability and energy independence. Strategic needs coupled with underinvestment in the space has created a pipeline problem, and a salient need for early stage investment.

Connectivity

Advances in network and connectivity in recent decades have changed the way we live. We now have a unique opportunity to translate these innovations throughout our lives, to real assets and infrastructure. We require connectivity in the form of sensors, RFID, wireless charging, and data platforms, enabled by new age telecom and space constellation activity.

GEOGRAPHY

Geography matters.

We bridge the mature activity centers of Silicon Valley and Boston — Stanford and MIT — to the growing and undercapitalized hubs of emerging innovation across America like Austin, Denver, Atlanta and Pittsburgh.

Criteria

We invest in founders with GRIT.

We look for game changing companies that tackle massive market opportunities with differentiated deep technology and the hustle to get early traction.

Our Style

We focus on go-to-market in deep technology. We take lead deals, assume board seats and get in the trenches to support our companies. This includes fundraising, business model, talent, strategy and execution.

Stage

We lead pre-seed and seed rounds and Series-A rounds on an exception basis. We invest from $250K for the earliest companies, to several million in later stage investments.

Industry

We are connected to the broader industrial base, across Fortune 500 corporates and later stage pools of capital. We connect early-stage technologies and startups to strategic partners.

Government

We work closely with government innovation labs and departments. We fund startups with technology and business development via non-dilutive government funding from national programs.

Impact

We believe all investing is impact investing. Should you invest with negative impact, you assume outsized risk. We look for companies solving big problems with a  positive world impact.

WE BELIEVE

The deep technology revolution is a unique and timely opportunity to root the future in a diverse perspective.

We at Grit believe a diverse perspective is a more complete perspective, and thus, more valuable.

And therein lies the opportunity...

The Mission

We are on a mission, to elevate humanity, drive economic growth, and diversify wealth. We are taking a systematic, scalable approach and focusing at the points of maximum impact. Grit is the passion and perseverance to build a better way. Onward and upward.

Sustainability

A sustainable lifestyle is a precondition to humanity’s happy existence, today and tomorrow. The entire system needs to evolve. This is the economic opportunity of a lifetime. We take an elevated approach to sourcing solutions that are both economic and clean. We look for clever answers that create a more circular and efficient economy, across industry.

Economy

Economic growth is rooted in technology and entrepreneurship. New businesses create virtually all new jobs. Deep technological advancements drive outsized economic growth, while improving our quality of life. This drives prosperity.

Diversity

Quality decisions are enabled by a broad perspective. The broader the perspective, the better. Diversity is in our best interest, despite disconnected networks and unconscious bias. Growth in both population and advanced education is increasingly diverse. Diversity is the future, but it will take GRIT. We know you have it. So do we.

Investment Thesis

Massive upcoming waves of R&D funding, huge real asset exit markets and decades of underivestment have created a hole in deep tech, particularly in the early stages. This is where we focus. We source from the nation's top labs, and de-risk by leading early-stage rounds and focusing on talent, funding, and go-to-market strategy.

Deep Tech

Grit Ventures is an early-stage deep technology infrastructure fund focused on AI, Robotics and Advanced Energy.

Labs to Launch

We organize around marquee research universities and the innovation ecosystems that they anchor.

Innovation Hubs

We bridge the mature activity centers of Silicon Valley and Boston — Stanford and MIT — to the growing hubs of emerging innovation across America like Los Angeles, Austin, Denver, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh.
